STUDIO DRAWING - Vine, Willow and Chunck Charcoal, oh and don't forget the shammy

Only about a month into the school semester did I feel the need to create an art blog for myself. [I finally feel like I've settled into RISD] I do plan on creating a RISD Portfolio for myself later on but it would be nice if I could have a place to post my wips, sketches and smaller creations - a casual blog.

It's my first time working with charcoal and I have to say that I'm still not getting the hang of it. The vine and willow sticks break very easily under the pressure of my hand since I tend to have a heavy hand when I work with mediums like conte and graphite. I hope I'm improving.

This was the first in class exercise that I did in Ellie's class.

STUDIO: Mobiles, wire and apples

This week for spatial dynamics we had the assignment to create mobiles that had simple motion. For my solution I had lots of fun constructing one for my baby sister.  Since I made one out of silk screened butterflies, I though why not make another one. Sadly I don't have a fancy DSLR so here are some low quality iphone pictures.

Materials: wire, fabric, thread, fishing wire, camomile tea

I filled the patchwork shapes with camomile tea and it smells really nice. Ugh. but in the picture it just looks like it's barely there. The mobile takes up a lot of space and is so very delicate because of the gage of wire I used. I have no choice but to hang it up in my dorm room against the wall.

Slowly I'll be taking pictures of all the pieces and assignments I've done so far (which is actually a lot. I already have more than 20 pages for drawing class a lone. I really want to document everything I do at RISD, even the pieces and exercises that I failed at.
